GBCA is assisting the not-for-profit Jury Lands Foundation to conserve one of the original buildings on this National Historic Site in Bowmanville, Ontario. GBCA has been working on this site since 2014, preparing a mothballing plan as a means of stabilizing the abandoned site until plans were put in place for the future.
The complex was originally built as the Bowmanville Boys’ Training School. The buildings, a unique use of Prairie Style architecture in Canada, were expropriated in 1941 to become “Camp 30”, a WWII Prisoner of War camp with a remarkable history. The property’s significance was recognized in 2012 when it was designated as a National Historic Site.
