Intermediate to Senior Architect or Architectural Technologist

GBCA is seeking an architect or architectural technologist at an intermediate to senior level with experience in the conservation of historic buildings and sites. Heritage experience is essential.  Focused on teamwork, our ideal candidate will be hands-on in the development of a full range of heritage deliverables including conservation drawings, specifications, site review, project documentation and report writing. Must also possess strong project management, negotiation and communication skills.

Qualifications include:

  • Graduate of a recognized an accredited school of Architecture or Architectural technologist program 
  • Eligible for licensing as an OAA Architectural Technologist or an OAA Architect would be an asset
  • 5 years minimum of relevant experience in the heritage field
  • Graduate of a Heritage Architecture Program is an asset
  • Excellent knowledge of Auto CAD and Microsoft Office
  • Good knowledge of Revit
  • CAHP member (Intern or full professional membership) is an asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge of existing and or heritage buildings and conservation best practices
  • Experience from initial site condition review and measurement through to design to contract administration
  • Proven experience in overseeing technical production and construction
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership and negotiating skills
  • Demonstrated ability of working independently and as part of a project team

Duties include:

  • Lead and/or assist team members in design, contract documents and contract administration roles
  • Establish and manage relationships with clients and project stakeholders
  • Produce technical drawing and detailing for contract documents related to restoration and rehabilitation projects
  • Coordination of sub consultants
  • Coordination and assembly of reports (Heritage Impact Assessments and Conservation Plans)
  • Field work
  • Project Management: establish and manage scope; create estimates and manage to approved budget; develop timelines; prepare project documentation & reports
  • Other duties as assigned

This is a full time (37.5 hours per week) position.  Salary and initial probationary period will be negotiated and is dependent on qualifications and experience.
