On September 22, 2022, the City of Windsor announced the Mackenzie Hall Masonry Restoration Project as one of the five recipients of its 2022 Built Heritage Awards. The GBCA team consisting of President and Senior Principal, Christopher Borgal and Principal (Conservation), Carlos Morell, along with Jason Grossi of Studio g+G Architects served as the architectural team for the project.

To preserve the important nineteenth century landmark building, the team prepared a conservation strategy that took a holistic and comprehensive technical approach to rehabilitate and repair the building envelope.

GBCA is honoured to be awarded for its work on Mackenzie Hall which was recognized as one of the first heritage-designated properties in Windsor.

We are delighted to share that the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario (ACO) has recognized President and Senior Principal of GBCA, Christopher Borgal, OAA FRAIC, CAHP as the 2022 recipient of the prestigious Eric Arthur Lifetime Achievement Award.

Chris’s contribution to heritage conservation has been truly outstanding, having worked on thousands of heritage sites and buildings across Canada. While much of his past and present work has been on key buildings in major cities such as on the Parliament Hill’s Centre Block (Ottawa) and on Massey Hall (Toronto), Chris has also dedicated his time to the heart of heritage in Ontario’s smaller towns with projects in Blyth, Goderich and Waterloo amongst others.
