GBCA was retained by the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to provide conservation services for the restoration of two nineteenth century bronze lamp standards that prominently mark the front entrance to the Provincial Parliament Buildings.

These impressive tripartite lights required stabilization and refinishing. Having undergone several reparations over the years, the lamps required careful analysis of the original materials and finishes prior to preparing the appropriate course of action. GBCA’s conservators prepared a condition assessment and conservation specifications. Working with Roof Tile Management Inc., the bronze components were disassembled and transported to Artcast Inc. in Georgetown, Ontario, where they were cleaned, patinated and waxed. In addition to the bronze work, broken glass was replaced and the masonry repairs were undertaken prior to reinstallation on the steps of the Legislature.

Undertaken in the summer of 2011, the project was on time and on budget.
